YouTube Video Award has announced the winners and is now officially closed. The surprising thing about the result is Smosh Short 2: Stranded won. How did this unoriginal overrated emo turned slacker shtick took the Best Comedy prize is beyond me. Stranded is not even in the same league as Aconover's Ben takes a photo of himself everyday, DCLugi's Help Wanted and Happy Slip's Mixed Nuts.
There are also dozens of Youtube clips which are not nominated in the category that is better than Stranded. Rob Paravonian's Pachebel Rant for example made me laugh, Stranded did not.
But then again maybe I could have overlooked the hidden brilliance of Stranded. Well let's see: OK Go Here It Goes Again is cleverly choreographed, Stranded is not. Lasse Gjertsen's Amateur is an example of good video editing, Stranded is not.
Maybe it's in the acting then? Jake Shimabukuro's While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Jerry Chang's Canon Rock (covered by funtwo & Mattrach), Phil Hansen's Influences, and OneManSho's 200 Impressions are all shining example of talent, Stranded is not.
How about the production? College Saga, Mr. Deity, and God, Inc. are all both funny and wonderfully produced, while Stranded is not.
Maybe it's the independent underground spirit that won the people over? SoldierInGodsArmy is a hilarious risky anti-mainstream satire, Stranded is pandering to the safe mainstream MTV-Punked media.
Now, can anyone explain to me why Stranded won Best Comedy?
Christine Gambito of Happy Slip Productions as always is a class act, as she is grateful to have received enough votes to at least place her 2nd in her category:
Congratulations to the dynamic duo -Smosh for taking the YouTube trophy for Best Comedy of 2006. Here are the results and you will see that my video “Mixed Nuts” came in 2nd place! Not bad for being on YouTube for only 6 months… haha
Filipino on Happy Slip

Jayvee Fernandez @ b5media: It is amazing how a career in nursing can take a turn to something completely unrelated.
Jayvee Fernandez @ A Bugged Life: As a young and gorgeous Filipina who made nursing her fallback in the US, she took the artistic plunge and went all out in her creative endeavors.
Juan Magdaraog @ b5media: I’m a fan. I mean that in a non-patronizing way. I am really a fan.
Maricar @ Filipina Soul: She's hilarious...I like her impersonation of her father (”Deesasterrr”).
Mike Abundo @ Asian Sirens: With one fell swoop, Christine has singlehandedly begun the viral transformation of the Filipina global image: from lowly-paid nurse to social media maven.
Joey Alarilla @ Inquirer Bloggers: If you’re wondering about the future of TV and how free online tools such as YouTube are empowering ordinary people, then check out Happy Slip/Christine’s hilarious video clips... Christine is a bona fide YouTube star... I love her work
Mike Abundo @ Inquirer Bloggers: SHE’S funny, she’s a very popular YouTube director, and she’s a real babe! What’s not to like?
Mike Abundo: Mixed Nuts, a hilarious play on Filipino family culture. Vote for Happy Slip.
Mike Abundo: Slip into happiness with this gallery of Christine’s work. As her dad would say, disaster!
Mike Abundo: Filipina comedienne Christine “Happy Slip” Gambito has made it to the semifinals of Valleywag’s Vlog Hot contest. As the only female semifinalist who works without a production team, she richly deserves to win.
Obet of Putanginamo:
Philippine Blog Awards... Here are the finalists in the Podcast category... Happy Slip (she will probably win and should)
Obet of Putanginamo:
She makes cute sketches. Even though she makes Pinoy content, she he has a huge white audience. Props to her for “crossing over".
Manuel Villoria: Is it just me or does she remind you of Jean Garcia?
Reyna Elena: I am a fan of this gurrl from the very first time she posted here very first video blog and she kept me cracking up since then.
Cathy S. Babao Guballa @ Inquirer: In a span of three months, each segment garners a hundred thousand plus hits each time a new segment is posted by its pretty and wacky creative director cum actress-producer, simply called Christine.
Ben Pimentel @ sfgate: I'm an immigrant from the Philippines. And, while I think I've managed to keep up with the latest tech trends, I wonder if there will come a time when my two boys, both first generation Filipino Americans, will be posting YouTube clips making fun of their tatay (dad).
Amee Enriquez @ Asianjournal: The million dollar question remains, and we just had to ask, does she still wear half slips? “No, unless it’s a very see-through dress. So yes, there is the occasion when I still call upon the ol’ happy slip.”
