jesus camp

We are all born atheist. As babies, we have no conception of Jesus, Abraham, or Mohammad. Yet fundamentalists tell us otherwise - that we are born Christians, Jews or Muslim. Growing up, some of us are bombarded with dogmas that our young, innocent minds accepted without question - adults know it all as the story goes. Some us outgrow the teachings of our parents that Santa Claus gave the gift under the Christmas tree. Yet, woe to others, many growing up couldn't shake the white bearded old man, many still believe that he is the gift-giver.

This get-them-while-they're-young tactic, has been the forefront of conversion of religious organizations. Some baptize 'em without consent, some setup schools so that dissent will be frowned upon, and some like the Taliban put them in concentration camps, killing anyone who dare to be infidel. This organization breeds mediciore uniformity, as thinking for oneself is essentially outlawed.

Democracy is an idea I always cherish, because unlike religion, it promotes diversity. In America, for example, prayer in schools was banned - as forcing Jews to pray to Jesus and Christians to Allah against their will is no matter how you look at it - wrong.

Now this very essence of tolerance, and respect for others belief, is threated as Christian Fundamentalist is on a mission to stamp out Non-Christians. 2007 Oscar Nominated documentary Jesus Camp features Becky Fischer, a Pentecostal pastor whose evangelizing rhetoric is aimed at children. Every summer she gathers children who are home-schooled by their Evangelical parents, and drill them at Devil's Lake camp called “Kids on Fire.” Her aim is to create Soldiers for God to go to war with Non-Christian.

The filmmaker Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady, has done an outstanding job on focusing at three indoctrinate, 12-year-old Levi, 10-year-old Tory, and 9-year-old Rachel. Home schooled, and taught outright lies about science - like Galileo renouncing science to join Jesus ministry - the kids are cajoled, prodded, and scared so as to conform to Becky's dogmatic world view.

The film is sometimes funny ("Harry Potter is an enemy of God"), sometimes frustrating (praying over the cardboard box of George W. Bush), sometimes abusive (letting a small child hold a miniature fetus) and sometimes Jihad-like ("if you're not with us you're against us"). After watching the film, I was reminded of 700 Club's Pat Robertson who calls for the assassination of Hugo Chavez. I come away exasperated, yet thankful in the end that I am an atheist.

Re: Jesus Camp Christians have as much right to vote as you pro-sodomite, pro-abortion anti-Christian bigots like you.

SAY THIS PRAYER: Dear Jesus, I am a sinner and am headed to eternal hell because of my sins. I believe you died on the cross to take away my sins and to take me to heaven. Jesus, I ask you now to come into my heart and take away my sins and give me eternal life.

I have come across guys like you basa. And what you all share in common is that, you are all in denial. The mere fact that you recognized the existence of God simply means that you are just denying something which you previously believe in. Your argument that we are born with no notion of religion is a bit "baluktot". Babies are born without much of a whisp but common sense dictates that's the reason why as we grow older we are given faculties which enable us to think and discern. You are merely in denial dude. God exists. Whether you believe it or not is a matter of your choice. You choose the setup that God does not exist but that is not dependent upon your reasoning.

In the end, you are given by God the power of free will to choose you destiny. That is both the curse and gift of free will. You can be good and also wallow in the deepest of stupidities. Remember this. The reason why for you God does not exist is a matter of choice. And remember all choices have consequences.

Gamit ka nman ng konting common sense. Hndi un puro pambobola ginagawa mo. Have character, if you still have some semblance of it left.

    Rev. Don Spitz,
    Nice parody.
    =)

    Anonymous,
Thanks for visiting my site, even though you didn't link your own.

Regarding reason. Well, some Christians call me to have faith, and not use too much reason. You, on the other hand, is urging me to have reason. Which is which?

You can't prove and disprove that there is a God. Just as you can't prove and disprove that Jose Luis is Jesus Incarnate.

I sometimes find it weird that some Christians attempt to prove the existence of God. If he can be proven, then there's no room for faith.

Don't get me wrong. I believe in God. But my belief isn't because I have proof that he exists. It is because I have decided to take the leap of faith and believe that there is a God.

Now the next question will undoubtedly be, is that faith reasonable? AHH...another question for another day! ;) (It is, according to Pascal.)

Bottom line is, it is pointless to try to prove God's existence. There are circumstantial evidence, but that's all we're gonna get, and they don't prove anything conclusively. Believing in God is still a matter of faith, and no amount of arguing or reasoning will convince anyone to believe in Him.

And certainly, heaping criticism upon criticism on Basang Panaginip and his choice to be an aetheist will NEVER in a million years convince him to become a Christian.

Funnier is the bleatings of the first two posters on your blog entry..
Guys: your religion has as much validity as any other religion, belief in the easter bunny, santa claus etc..

Just because you have an unquestioning, indoctrinated mind: doesn't mean the rest of us do. Your religions have (and continue to) hold back humanity and persecute people.

Aren't we all just a bit old for imaginary friends and irrational/illogical flights of fancy?
