Last June 1, 2006, Search Engine Marketing (SEM) expert Marc Macalua of SEO Philippines, launched a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) contest. Aptly named Isulong SEOPH, the four month race ushers experts to promote SEO on this country by ranking 1st on Google using the word Isulong SEOPH. The move was a success, as many Filipino, SEO professionals and non-professionals alike, piqued by the challenge and the price, joined.

Now, two days before the contest closing, a disgruntled sponsor, issued a letter to Marc, implying that Filipino Blogger are spammers. Now, this is the part where I show my teeth. Why? Because I am a Filipino, and what's more I am a Blogger.

Bertrand, the originator of the letter, keep repeating phrases like "BLOG Spammers N Jammers," and that "of the top 10 entries are Wordpress Blogs." It's as if a Blogger is disease entity which is to be avoided at all cost.

Ah, Bertrand, if only you know that many Filipino bloggers, like Abe Olandres, have been working hard to the elevate the status of Philippines Blogging.

If only you've checked the Fortune 500 companies who has Corporate Blogs.

You claim to be a SEO professional, yet how come you've overlooked the fact SEO Philippines is using Wordpress Blog, before signing up to be a sponsor?

If only you've known that Digitalpoint has a Blogging Forum.

Or that WebmasterWorld has Blogging segment like Blogging for Fun and Profit on their Pubcon. And that most of their speakers has a Blog.

If only you saw this, then you wouldn't have put your foot in your SEO mouth, by implying that a Blog is not a Website.

why is everybody using wordpress? I've tried the thing and the Admin interface just looks awful. Why not try textpattern? It's the perfect combination of power and simplicity. ;) There are blogging platforms that you can try live at Open Source CMS. =)

@ tobey: Obviously it's a matter of choice and convinience. You cannot force what you want to other people. If they're comfortable with it, let them be. No need to down wordpress. I tried using textpattern too but I couldn't get the hang of it. Just like your taste is not with wordpress. Thats it.

I read blogs because of their content and not how cool they look. Same with other websites. Those that really appreciate the design are mostly designer themselves looking for inspiration. Content is still king!

Btw, I also use wordpress and haven't tried anything else.
